ASEAN Youth Forum Annual Report 2023

In 2023, the ASEAN Youth Forum (AYF) empowered Southeast Asian youth to amplify their voices on key issues, focusing on the Myanmar conflict and youth welfare. Through advocacy, grassroots mobilization, and providing a safe space for youth to connect, the AYF has played a vital role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and supporting youth affected by political turmoil.

Key initiatives included a study on the impact of the coup on Myanmar’s youth, youth mobilization efforts across Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, and a collaboration with Plan International on youth welfare. AYF also hosted the Southeast Asian Youth Summit in Jakarta, bringing together youth to discuss welfare, education, and climate change.

In addition, the School of Advocacy and mini grants for youth activism strengthened the capacity of youth to advocate for their rights. The formation of a strong network of 122 entities amplified youth voices across the region.

The AYF’s impactful use of social media has further expanded its reach, generating significant engagement and amplifying youth voices on human rights issues. AYF also gained visibility in national media, including a guest appearance on SEA Today news, to promote youth-led change.

The AYF’s efforts in youth empowerment, advocacy, and governance have made a significant impact in Southeast Asia.
